# What
We
Believe

THIRTEEN CONVICTIONS THAT SHAPE OUR WALK WITH THE GOD OF ISRAEL.

"The Torah of the Lord is perfect , restoring the soul."

— Psalm 19:7

## Our Thirteen Convictions

These convictions guide our worship, our teaching, and the way we live together as a Messianic Jewish community in New York City.

If you are new to any of this, our [Theology & Roots](/messianic-judaism) page explains what Messianic Judaism is and how it differs from a mainstream synagogue and from a church.

א

### One God: The Trinity

We believe in the God of Israel, who is אֶחָד (one). The one God eternally exists as three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and רוּחַ הַקֹּדֶשׁ (the Holy Spirit). Each person is fully God, yet there are not three gods, but one God. This is the Trinity: three distinct persons who are eternally and perfectly one.

ב

### יֵשׁוּעַ (Yeshua), the Jewish Messiah

We believe that יֵשׁוּעַ (Yeshua/Jesus) of Nazareth is the promised Jewish Messiah revealed in the Torah, the Prophets, and the Writings. Through His death and bodily resurrection, He established the בְּרִית חֲדָשָׁה (New Covenant), bringing forgiveness, new life, and salvation to Israel and the nations.

ג

### יֵשׁוּעַ (Yeshua): Fully God and Fully Human

We believe that יֵשׁוּעַ (Yeshua) is the eternal Son of God who became truly human without ceasing to be God. He is fully divine and fully human, united in one person. Through Him, we see the character and presence of God revealed in human life.

ד

### רוּחַ הַקֹּדֶשׁ (The Holy Spirit)

We believe that רוּחַ הַקֹּדֶשׁ (the Holy Spirit) is a divine person, not merely a force. He gives new life, lives within believers, reveals truth, gives spiritual gifts, and empowers us to become more like יֵשׁוּעַ (Yeshua).

ה

### The Bible

We believe that the entire Bible, from בְּרֵאשִׁית (Genesis) to הִתְגַּלּוּת (Revelation), is the inspired and trustworthy Word of God. It is our final authority for faith, doctrine, and daily life.

ו

### תּוֹרָה (Torah)

We believe that תּוֹרָה (Torah) is God's covenant instruction to Israel. It reveals His holiness, wisdom, justice, and love. We understand its purpose through the life, teaching, death, and resurrection of יֵשׁוּעַ (Yeshua), who brings it to its intended fullness.

ז

### Honoring Jewish Tradition

We recognize תּוֹרָה שֶׁבְּעַל פֶּה (the Oral Torah) as the traditions, interpretations, and practices developed by the Jewish people throughout history. We do not place tradition above Scripture, but we honor Jewish traditions that strengthen Jewish identity, community, and faith in יֵשׁוּעַ (Yeshua).

ח

### God's Continuing Calling on Israel

We believe that God's covenant purposes for Israel remain in effect and that His calling of the Jewish people has not been revoked. Jewish practices may take different forms across cultures and generations, but they should remain faithful to Scripture and strengthen the community of Israel.

ט

### Restoring Israel and Reaching the Nations

We pray and work for the גְּאֻלָּה (redemption) of Israel through יֵשׁוּעַ (Yeshua) the Messiah. We also proclaim the good news to every nation, believing that God desires people from every tribe, language, and culture to know Him.

י

### Saved by Grace Through Faith

We believe that יְשׁוּעָה (salvation) is the work of God, our גּוֹאֵל (Redeemer). It cannot be earned through human effort or religious performance. Salvation comes through חֶסֶד (grace and covenant love) and is received through אֱמוּנָה (faith and trust) in יֵשׁוּעַ (Yeshua). Good works are the result of salvation, not the cause of it.

י״א

### One Global Family

We believe that גּוּף הַמָּשִׁיחַ (the Body of Messiah) is one spiritual family made up of Jewish and non-Jewish followers of יֵשׁוּעַ (Yeshua). We are united through the Messiah and רוּחַ הַקֹּדֶשׁ (the Holy Spirit) while honoring the distinct identities and callings of Jews and Gentiles.

י״ב

### Community and Leadership

We believe that every קְהִלָּה (community or congregation) needs humble, accountable, and Spirit-led leadership. Leaders are called to serve, teach sound doctrine, protect the community, and help believers grow in unity and spiritual maturity.

י״ג

### Carrying Our Cross and Living Like יֵשׁוּעַ (Yeshua)

We believe that following יֵשׁוּעַ (Yeshua) requires daily בִּטּוּל (self-surrender). From a New Testament perspective, this means denying ourselves, carrying our cross, and following Him. Through the continual filling of רוּחַ הַקֹּדֶשׁ (the Holy Spirit), God shapes our lives into the character and likeness of the Messiah.
